The phrase “moving on” can be an excuse to avoid further interrogation about wrong decisions or results; it can be an excuse to undermine – or even deride the Bible and it can be an excuse, or a reason given for abandoning truth that was understood for many years but is now a thing of the past as an easier path presented itself. All can be bracketed under the heading of “Moving On”. But this phrase can also be used legitimately in other areas which this sermon covers. And with our calling – and Christian way of life – yes, we have to move on by growing in grace and knowledge. That is the “moving on” that we should all be involved with!

Out of the tens-of-billions of people who have ever lived, God has called some to be firstfruits in His Kingdom. Those who attain this glorious future will then be perfect—like God and members of His eternal Family.

Perhaps no part of God’s Word is more revealing about our relationship with God and Jesus Christ than what is recorded in John 17. Jesus prayed that we might be one with both Him and the Father. The Day of Atonement represents how God is reconciling us through Jesus so that we can be one in the Family of God.

As we anxiously await the return of Jesus Christ, we are left in this world seeking righteousness. The source of the Word of God comes from the Church and the work that they are performed to do. If we are to quench our thirst for truth, we need to support the work through our offerings.

We are given a myriad of names that Christ was called throughout the New and Old Testaments. His many names are not just given to Him as praise but because he fulfilled the meaning of what He was called. We are told God will give each of us a new name. What are we doing today to earn that title?

While it might seem that the Bible doesn’t say a lot about this Feast, let’s remember a key word that is given—that is that this day is a MEMORIAL This is about more than the past—this Feast of Trumpets is also to remind us of future events!

The story of Gideon gives us an inspiring example of the power of faith. As it was able to strengthen him and a small army to drive away enemies without lifting a weapon, faith provides us with the means to conquer our trials, great and small.
